Abstract
A method is proposed to enable teachers to develop and evaluate students' investigations by looking at the sructure of the hypothesis. The method discusses different forms of hypothesis and uses the students' treatment of items, groups, mechanisms and scientific principles in the investigation to classify the investigation within a hierarchical taxonomy.
