Abstract

Surface current maps from a phased array HF radar are produced continuously at 15-minute intervals. This enables calculation of time-resolved divergence and curl parameters to identify dynamical features of a river plume. Lagrangian tracking through a tidal cycle is used to follow the paths of virtual drifters in the low salinity water. The HF radar product serves to integrate the features of in situ sampling and satellite SAR imagery.
