Abstract
[Extract] Research has been defined as the creation of new knowledge and the use of existing knowledge in a new and creative way to generate new concepts, methods, and understandings.1 In Australia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (hereafter respectfully referred to as First Nations people) have been doing this for millennia: living in harmony with the environment, cultivating the land, navigating the seas, and passing down knowledge through generations via art and storytelling. First Nations people have always been, and will remain, the original and ultimate researchers.
