Abstract

Cereal hay is a crucial roughage source in livestock die.ts, particularly for ruminants. Harvested during early development stages and dried, it offers digestible carbohydrates and dietary fibre, supporting rumination, overall health and production in ruminants (Agriculture Victoria, 2018). Oaten hay, specifically, is gaining popularity in dairy production for its potential benefits on intake, milk production, quality, and reduction in metabolic. diseases (Wu, 2018). However, its nutritive. value varies significantly due to factors like. genetics, environment, and management of the growing crop. These variations can influence crop yield and quality, and it in nun to impact on dairy cow performance. So far, there has been no comprehensive review published to document the usage of oaten bay in dairy production. Thus, this review explored the nutritive value of oaten hay and its implications for dairy cow diets, production and efficiency.
