Abstract
[Extract] The Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Research (TropWATER) (formerly trading as ACTFR) has been undertaking ambient aquatic monitoring on Townsville Field Training Area (TFTA) since 1991. Ambient aquatic monitoring has focused on the ecology and water quality of streams, with particular emphasis on permanent waterholes. This is in recognition of the importance and high conservation value of these systems to the ecology of the region. These waterholes are vital refuges for aquatic biota, and in the dry season, may be the only available watering points for wildlife.
