Abstract

[Extract] This book aims to explore how fiscal policies can preserve biodiversity and tackle climate change on an international scale. Since 1970, biodiversity has declined by 69% due to economic activities, changes in land use, climate change, pollution and the spread of invasive, alien species. This highlights the urgent need for fiscal policies that address market failures and ensure that the costs of biodiversity loss are internalised. The book is divided into four parts and fourteen chapters. The first part discusses the need to protect biodiversity and introduces the tax systems and methodologies that can support this goal.
