Abstract
[Extract] The Montague and Whistler gold deposits are hosted within metabasalts and granitoid rocks of the southern Gum Creek greenstone belt, Youanmi Terrane, Southern Cross Domain, Yilgarn Craton, Western Australia (Figs. 1A and B).
Despite over 100 years of exploration for gold and other metals in the Gum Creek greenstone belt, detailed geological investigations only started in the 1990’s (Middleton, 1990; Otterman, 1990; Beeson et al., 1993; Hazard, 1998). To the present day, gold mineralisation in the southern Gum Creek greenstone belt remains poorly studied, preventing the definition of exploration targeting criteria and the development of future targeting strategies.
