Abstract
Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most commonly isolated pathogens within clinical microbiology laboratories. In many cases, the organism is identified with the aid of a tube coagulase test for free staphylocoagulase. Thus, it is essential that Medical Scientists working in the field of microbiology familiarise themselves with the theory, sources of error and correct procedure for performance of this test.
