Abstract
Since its initial expression in Nicholas Onuf's 1989 book, World of Our Making, the constructivist approach in international relation has gained prominence as a valid, and for some even a preferable theoretical approach to make sense of and give meaning to international politics . The constructivist have achieved this prominence in the field of international relation theory by arguing that the international behaviour of nation-states is essentially socially constructed (Guzzini, 2000; Hopf, 1998; Katzentien, 1996; Kratchowil, 1996; Price and Reus-Smit, 1998; Ruggie, 1998; Wendt, 1987; Wendt, 1992: Wendt, 1994). At its heart, the constructivist approach provide an alternate pathway to the existing modes of theorizing about international relations, especially tho e proposed by the rationalists in general and the neo-liberal and neo-realists in particular.
