Abstract

Jillian Lippmann investigated the history and representation of the Flapper in Australia, referred to in scholarship as the Modern Girl. She found this figure ubiquitously portrayed in Australian magazines and novels of the 1930s. Redressing the relative inattention to the Modern Girl in cultural and literary histories, Jillian's scholarship contributes to a more nuanced understanding of this figure.
