Abstract

This book concludes that migration and demand for home and homeland remain an important issue in the highly plural and complex space of Eastern South Asia. In this region, many ethnic groups live together and have often been engaged in conflict with each other and, in the case of India, some of them have been contesting with the Indian state for regional autonomy or a separate homeland. Some of the movements and conflicts have crossed the international boundaries, while most disputes have remained within the sovereign borders of India. The local, regional and cross-border movements and conflicts also affect the bilateral relations between the states bordering India’s eastern and northeast states.
