Abstract

North Queensland Bulk Ports commenced an ambient marine water quality monitoring program surrounding the Ports of Mackay and Hay Point in July 2014. The objective of the program is to progress a long term water quality dataset to characterise marine water quality conditions within the Mackay region that will support future planned port activities. This report presents data collected during the 2020/2021 annual monitoring period.

Particulate Nitrogen, Chla and SSC were above the GBRMPA guideline values. WE recommend development of locally specific guidelines that reflect the natural range in this region. All herbicides monitored were below guideline values. Continuous sediment deposition and turbidity logging data supports the pattern found more broadly in north Queensland coastal marine environments.
