Abstract

[Extract] Port of Townsville Limited (POTL) is replacing a portion of the Western Breakwater wall as part of the ongoing works for completion of the Channel Upgrade Program. TropWATER (JCU) has been commissioned to complete benthic habitat surveys of the Western Breakwater area as outlined in Figure 1. Benthic habitat assessments followed established methods previously used by TropWATER for benthic habitat monitoring as part of the contracted Channel Upgrade Seagrass Program and the Long-Term Seagrass Monitoring Program in Townsville (McKenna et al. 2020).

The survey specifically set out to examine the health and extent of seagrasses growing within the construction envelope.
