Abstract

The Digital Twin in medicine is a revolutionary approach toward personalized, model and data-based healthcare delivery. While the concept finds its early origins in the Visible Human Project of the 1990s and subsequent body modeling systems such as BodyParts3D in the 2000s, it has since attracted significant traction through the European Virtual Physiological Human initiative. The Digital Twin has evolved as an entirely new paradigm in medicine which is being further developed in large European research collaborations.
