Abstract

Apinya Chaitae studied the Thai legal ivory trade, which is based on ivory from domesticated elephants. She found that Near Infrared Spectroscopy can differentiate between legal and illegal ivory. Although control mechanisms meet international obligations, they impose compliance burdens amongst ivory supply chain actors. Apinya will use her findings to inform trade controls when she returns to her government position in Thailand.
