Abstract

This paper reports on an ongoing collaborative project between tourism and hospitality staff at one US University and two Australian Universities over a three year period. The project has focused upon the exchange of web-based travel and tourism advertising images of US and Australian destinations together with comments and explanations regarding the perceived accuracy with which such images depict the cultures and attractions of the American and Australian destinations. The resulting advertising images and comments were content analysed to identify and compare across nationality groups key image dimensions and how these images influence perceptions of the two countries. In particular the differences between student's perceptions of their own country versus those chosen by the other nationality group were identified and explored.
