Abstract

Miyako Matsui investigated Japanese language maintenance within intermarriage families in Australia. She found that parent's Japanese use and sufficient exposure to Japanese culture in the home and community affect children's Japanese use and cultural identities. Government and community support for intermarriage families would assist with heritage language maintenance.
