Abstract
[Extract] A wistful, wispy-bearded face stares sidelong from the cover of this biography of the 19th-century Australian lyricist, Henry Kendall. He looks every bit the troubled and turbulent poet, as indeed he was. Inside, Adrian Mitchell recounts in relentless detail a life lived in the shadows of poverty, despair, alcohol and madness. He says a bit about Kendall's poetry, too. But not much. This is the story of a drunken, deceitful and deluded man who also wrote some verse.
