Abstract
[Extract] It is our great pleasure to present this first issue of the Yearbook of the Helsinki Centre for Intellectual History. Entitled Passions, Politics and the Limits of Society, this book brings together in a single volume a range of essays that engage with the changing shape of moral and political inquiry in the early modern period. It also acquaints the reader with the activities of the Centre. By now, it is nearly three and a half years since the Helsinki Centre for Intellectual History was established. In the meantime, the Centre has become something of an international reference point; this publication may therefore be seen as a sign confirming that both intellectual history in general and scholarly life in Helsinki are doing well.
