Abstract

This chapter describes evidence of non-prototypical derivation in the Zamucoan languages, spoken in the Gran Chaco territory between Bolivia and Paraguay. Alongside examples of gender motion, the paper describes several derivational affixes (including evaluatives) that have transcategorial application, since they can attach to different lexical classes. This behavior can be interpreted as a residue of agglutinating logic in languages which became, in the course of time, purely fusional.
