Abstract

[Extract] The new edited volume by O’Connor, McWilliam and Brockwell is produced in the high-quality fashion we have become accustomed to from ANU Press. If you are looking for a recent update on fortifications in Wallacea, including an in-depth discussion about their entangled social and climatic drivers, look no further. This edited volume includes a large number of international authors currently working on fortifications in Wallacea highlighting the global interest in this region. The volume contains 12 chapters subdivided into four sections. The first section is an introduction to the volume, while section two includes four chapters on recent excavations on sites in Timor-Leste. Section three is comprised of summary papers focussing on work in Sulawesi, whereas the final section summarises recent survey work again in Timor-Leste, including neighbouring islands, concluding with directions for future research.
