Abstract
This paper examines Australia's economy and employment under Covid19. While the impact on public health has been relatively less dramatic than in many other countries, the impact on the economy and jobs has been considerable, although uneven across regions, sectors, occupations, gender and employment status. Successful efforts towards containment have been providing some ground for an early recovery. Remarkably, the Coalition Government encouraged a dynamic of social dialogue in view of industrial relations (IR) reforms. However, it later introduced an 'omnibus' IR bill that is likely to make such dialogue difficult to sustain.
