Abstract
[Extract] Ranaviruses are globally significant pathogens of poikilothermic vertebrates (Duffus et al., 2015). The genus Ranavirus is one of six genera in the family Iridoviridae (subfamily Alphairidovirinae; Chinchar et al. 2017). They possess enveloped nucleocapsids with icosahedral symmetry that encapsidate the double-stranded DNA genome. Ranaviruses have been responsible for numerous disease episodes in both wild and managed populations of fish, amphibians, and reptiles, including endangered species (Duffus et al., 2015).
