Abstract

[Extract] With one or two exceptions, Tourism and Cricket is insightful and well written. The book should appeal to a broad audience including cricket enthusiasts, academics and casual readers. One of the book's assets is its multidisciplinary approach. This enables it to draw out social and cultural themes and illuminate the experiences of spectators and players who travel for cricket. Pearce's chapter (one of the book's best) turns the tables and considers the tourism experience of professional cricketers, verifying that it is not just spectators who encounter culture shock and homesickness when on tour.
