Abstract

The article documents the production of glass beads made of recycled glass imported from Europe, at the Cedi Beads Industry in Krobo Odumasi in south-eastern Ghana. At least since the Roman times, various types of glass beads produced in Europe and Middle East have been traded to West Africa. The demise of imports of European glass beads after the Second World War resulted in the intensification of the local production of glass beads, based on the recycling of old glass or an enhancement of various types of semi-products.
