Abstract
Hypoxic blackout is a preventable cause of drowning. There were 22 hypoxic blackout-related drowning deaths in Australia between 1-July 2002 and 30-June 2015, occurring recreationally in swimming pools and afflicting ocean freedivers and spearfishers. We advocate for an increased awareness of risks for all who swim and dive.
