Abstract

[Extract]: From my perspective as a mindfulness practitioner and social worker, this book might have been better titled Handbook of Experimental Mindfulness Research. Largely written by and for psychologists and psychiatrists, the emphasis of the book is on research rather than practice. Nonetheless, the book provides a wide survey of current studies and experiments in selected behavioural therapies researching the effects and impact of mindfulness, which, as the editors suggest, provides readers with “both a panoramic view of the current science of mindfulness and a compass to help guide its ongoing evolution” (p. 5). As such, the book is a well-conceived text that is thoughtfully edited with five logically developed sections, each consisting of three to six chapters.
