Abstract

[Extract] The long list of all Australian magazines and periodicals published since the early 19th cen-tury includes a wide array of forms that have served readers from various walks of life. These range from mass-market magazines designed to inform and entertain a large audience to more serious reviews and avant-garde magazines that have addressed small artistic, religious and intellectual communities.
