Abstract
This chapter covers different analytical and engagement approaches to strategic planning which have been directly influenced by the onset of digital disruption and the age of data. It discusses communication and analytical frameworks that can be used to facilitate strategy development from deep community-based engagements and social networks. The aim of a broad and deep strategic planning consultation can be outlined in three points: Seek staff views on the long-term direction of the organization; Provide opportunities for staff to input into and shape the future(s) of the organization; and Build collegiality through bringing staff together both cross-institutionally and within divisions. The chapter also covers a specific case study on deep community-based strategy engagement at a leading Australian University. The 6-month process allowed many people across the organization to come together in interactive sessions and frame different possible futures for the University.
