Abstract

[Extract] Until recently, the ethical context of international volunteering has been missing in the travel health literature despite prospective volunteers forming part of travellers seeking pre-travel care. The enormous increase in international volunteering has triggered a large body of literature in other disciplines including raising questions about the benefits to the host communities, yet, much of this literature is inaccessible to those who would benefit from its perusal. This book remedies this situation to a large extent. Hoping to Help is based on research, including fieldwork, but presented in a highly readable style.
