Abstract

[Extract] Having accessed and read Gordon Spearritt's weighty two-volume 1979 PhD dissertation as a postgraduate student some years ago, I was delighted when I learnt that the author had decided to revisit this material and self-publish it in digital form. This new release is in the form of a DVD, an interactive HTML document. Upon loading the disc, the reader is indirectly guided to a text file (aptly titled "00_read_me_first") which then instructs the reader to open the html file "index". Once these intial moves are navigated and the index is opened, a stunning world of Iatmul music is revealed.
