Abstract
[Extract] In a previous experiment, using buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis), Martin and Teleni (1989) showed that in the untrained animals, work capacity was limited by the pattern of utilisation of energy-yielding substrates which resulted in an apparent increase in lactate production by muscles. When the same animals were trained for a period of three weeks, their work capacity was significantly increased due to a probable increased capacity for aerobic metabolism in their muscles.
The results of the experiments, presented in preliminary forms in this paper, relate to changes in concentrations of some important blood metabolites in working Ongole, Bali and Madura cows which were untrained or trained.
