Abstract

[Extract] The working capacity of the Ongole, Bali and Madura cows were significanlty limited by their state of physical fitness (Komarudin-Ma'sum et al. 1991a). Training such animals for two to three weeks can significantly improve their work capacity (see Martin & Teleni 1989). For small cattle such as the Bali and Madura cows, this can be critical to their ability to perform work; particularly work such as ploughing which requires pulling draught loads of 40 - 60 kg.

This study was conducted to compare the ability of the Ongole, Bali and Madura cows in performing heavy work after a short period of training.
