Abstract
Employees of government agencies involved in supporting Aboriginal communities to establish wildlife development projects are often unaware of the many land-use project failures that have adversely affected government-Aboriginal community relations for the last two decades and beyond. This chapter identifies common elements that have often led to these project failures and a checklist is drawn up of potential danger signs that can be applied in future schemes. The concept of community-based planning is then discussed as a framework for ensuring that the support of agencies genuinely seeks to further community aspirations.
