Abstract
[Extract] Since 2001, we have been monitoring patterns of cannabis use and the extent to which it is associated with poor mental health in a collection of remote Aboriginal communities in Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. The five-year follow-up looking at cannabis use in this region is currently underway. This article provides a snapshot of some harms resulting from widespread cannabis abuse; the role of supply control in reducing harmful effects; and prospects for a community-driven approach to address widespread cannabis abuse.
