Abstract
[Extract] The alarming report by Hamilton and colleagues of 12 deaths associated with rapid opioid detoxification (ROD) using subcutaneous naltrexone implants contrasts dramatically with our experience in Perth, Western Australia, and may exaggerate the risks associated with this procedure. However, the report does raise important questions about the ancillary care provided to opiate-dependent individuals undergoing such therapy.
