Abstract
[Extract] Environmental geotechnics is a relatively new discipline that is relevant to all walks of life, including engineers, developers, administrators, technocrats, lawyers, a few other professionals and stakeholders. From mine backfilling to land reclamation, what was acceptable and taken for granted 50 years ago may be seen differently in the twenty-first century, where strict guidelines and legislations are in place to protect the environment and ensure environmental sustainability.
