Abstract
[Extract] The objectives of this chapter are twofold: to draw together and present observations made in preceding chapters; and to build a research agenda that can assist in developing our understanding of the opportunities for tourism development in rainforests. To address the first objective, two strategies were adopted: first, a model (Figure 1.2) representing the key factors affecting tourism in rainforests was proposed; second, a linked spatial- topic approach using specific rainforest systems (Amazon, Africa and Asia) and themes (for example, periphery, empowerment and governance) was adopted. The second objective is addressed by the development of a research agenda based on the issues identified in previous chapters.
