Abstract
[Extract] The Queensland Department of Main Roads (QDMR) is proposing to widen and elevate a 1.9km section of the road that leads to Tully Heads and Hull Heads. The site is located between the Hull River and the Tully River approximately 5-6km from the coast and approximately 10km ESE of Tully.
In order to address the whether the proposed works will cause environmental harm (Roads in the Wet Tropics: Best Practice Manual, QDMR 1997:0-3), the Australian Centre for Tropical Freshwater Research (ACTFR) was commissioned by Connell Wagner Pty. Ltd. on behalf of QDMR to assess the environmental values of the site with regard to potential impacts of the proposal.
A REF is only intended to identify relevant environmental issues and provide a preliminary assessment of the possible environmental effects of a proposed project to enable a decision to be made as to whether further assessment is required prior to commencement of works.
