Abstract
[Extract] Type 2 diabetes is highly prevalent among indigenous populations in Australia and the highest prevalence has been documented among Torres Strait Islanders. However to date incidence has been reported only in one group from central Australia more than a decade ago. As part of a health service planning exercise and in collaboration with two peak Indigenous health councils in north Queensland, we undertook a 5 year follow-up study of 486 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults who were free of diabetes at baseline.
