Abstract
A large number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have type 2 diabetes. Low health literacy among Indigenous people with diabetes contributes to poor self management and outcomes, and poor communication between health professionals and patients. Many of the complications associated with diabetes can be reduced with appropriate community based primary health care interventions.
