Abstract

The ACTFR was contracted by GHD Pty Ltd (Cairns) to undertake a supplementary terrestrial vertebrate fauna survey for the Great Palm Island Proposed Francis Creek Dam Draft Environmental Impact Statement. The project proposal, its history and the existing flora and fauna data is discussed more fully in the Draft EIS (GHD 1995) and will not be reiterated here.

The requirement for the additional work was in direct response to comments on the draft EIS by the Queensland Department of Environment, namely: a request for live trapping and nocturnal survey to be undertaken; and consideration of the impacts of the construction of the dam on nesting sites of the Torresian Imperial Pigeon. This report and the associated fieldwork addresses these requests.
