Abstract

[Extract] Few rural issues have attracted as much attention over the last decade or so as the continuing degradaion of agricultural lands and water. Droughts, floods, recessions, agri-politicians, and bank foreclosures have all dominated the Australian media at one time or another, but erosion, salinity, water quality, and tree decline have maintained an insidious presence. Indeed, the extent of land and water degradation in Australia makes it difficult to ignore.
