Abstract
This chapter examines the 2004 tsunami disaster in southern Thailand, its impact on tourism, and the management of the crisis. Based on this preliminary analysis, the following issues that have direct relevance to the design and application of a generic crisis management framework are discussed: (1) risk management with an 'all-hazards' approach; (2) pro-active network and resource development; (3) warnings, awareness and education; (4) communication and media relations; and (5) resilience and vulnerability reduction.
