Abstract
[Extract] Since the end of the Cold War and with the country's increasing focus on development and integration into the global economy, India has come to understand that tourism has the potential to contribute enormously to economic growth and the accumulation of foreign exchange. Traditionally India has been a destination for culture and heritage; the iconic Taj Mahal represents one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The country's tourism landscape is adorned with palaces, temples, the Himalayan mountain trails, and much, much more in a land of more than 1.1 billion people of different ethnic backgrounds and home to more than 415 different languages.
