Abstract
The collaboration between the AASW and PeakCare (Qld) on the mentoring pilot project sought to understand the role and impact of mentoring on staff working in government and non-government child protection roles across the two sites, in Cairns, North Queensland and Logan, South East Qld.
A survey was undertaken at two points in the mentoring process, with some questions answered on a Likert scale, short answer and more open-ended questions. A telephone interview was conducted with key stakeholders to obtain additional data.
The results were collated and indicated there was a clear link between staff retention and staff satisfaction, and the availability of mentoring. Results showed that staff were satisfied or more than satisfied with elements of the mentoring experience. Recommendations identified some changes for consideration when implementing future programs.
