Abstract

[Extract] Introducing the concept of 'becoming part of a team' is hard without resort to platitudes, rhetoric and, frankly, more of the same old stuff. Ideals and theories surrounding teamwork abound; they sound moral (create and maintain mutual respect), sensible (choose the team carefully) and supportive (have a preceptor)-yet the reality is not so clear for many who join a team for the first time as registered nurses (RNs). Graduate nurse programs (GNPs) of one type or another are the norm in Australia.
