[Extract] The recent stalling of measles elimination efforts in Europe and Africa, and downwards revision of estimated measles deaths prevented, has tempered optimism that this killer of children will soon be vanquished.¹²³ Progress in the Western Pacific region provides welcome optimism. Measles incidence declined from 27·0 in 2010 to 11·6 per million population in 2011.⁴
