Abstract
Many factors such as increasing international travel and commerce are leading to a growing need to communicate information (including instructions and warnings) to those who do not read a local language. Legislation and risk mitigation also increasingly require such communication. A well-comprehended symbol sign may be an appropriate solution, but finding or generating the right symbol can be difficult. This chapter provides a bibliography of international sources of symbol design and presentation rules as well as listings of symbols suitable for such communications. Standards referring to accessibility are included as is a reference to a site where symbols are indexed by key words.
