Abstract
[Extract] Attempts to persuade Asia-Pacific governments to acknowledge the universality of human rights (including trade union rights) and to improve working conditions - by the United States Government through its review of its Generalised System of Preferences (GSP), the American Federation of Labour-Confederation of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and agencies such as Human Rights Watch/Asia -- have been met with mixed reponses.
